Description:
Fairsky seen departing Southampton in the mid 1960’s.
Built by Western Pipe San Fransisco (type C3-S-A2) of grt 10200; dwt 14170 in 1942 .. laid down as Steel Artisan for Isthmian Steam Ship Co., launched as USS Barnes and renamed for Royal Navy as aircraft carrier, Attacker.
In 1947 work commenced & halted to convert to cargo ship.
In 1950 bought by A. Vlasov but laid up & intermittent alterations before finally being converted in 1958 to passenger ship for Australian immigration transport.
GRT 12464 dwt length 492, beam 70 feet
Steam turbine, single shaft, 17.5 kts
Renamings: 1952 CASTELFORTE for A.Vlasov (Sitmar Line)- 1953 CASTEL FORTE - 1957 FAIRSKY - 1959 FAIR SKY - 1964 FAIRSKY - 1978 PHILIPPINE TOURIST (Peninsula Tourist Sg)
Caught fire at Manila 1979 & broken up Hong Kong 1980
