DOUBLE HEADER
Description:
Double header running / 92212 and 76017.
92212 British Rail Standard 2-10-0 9F. Designed by Robert Riddles for use on fast heavy freight. Also worked as passenger haulage, these were the last of BR standards.
92212 built in 1959 at Swindon and withdrawn in 1968. Has 10 five foot driving wheels, the middle pair have no flanges to enable cornering. Working weight 139 tons and a tractive effort of 39667 lbs.
76017 British Rail Standard 4, 2-6-0 nicknamed the “Moguls”. Designed by Robert Riddles and used on freight or stopping passenger. 76017 was built in 1953 at Horwich and withdrawn in 1965. In 1954 went through catch points and down the embankment. Has five foot, three inch driving wheel. Working weight 60 tons and a tractive effort of 24170 l/ft.
Both now preserved on the Watercress Line.
