ROYAL VICTORIA MILITARY HOSPITAL
Description:
ROYAL VICTORIA MILITARY HOSPITAL, NETLEY
Building started 1856 for Crimea War and demolished in 1966
When built was the largest building in the world @ ΒΌ mile long
Because of its size the US troops used Jeeps within the corridors.
Two hospital were designed at the same time- one for UK and one for India
Because Netley Hospital was extremely cold in winter with long open corridors and bed spaces it is believed the plans got exchanged by mistake.
The demolished bricks made foundations for Totton Causeway.
The teak timber flooring was all burnt on site.
