QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 at Southampton Ocean Terminal plus crane circa 1971
Built 1968 by John Brown / Upper Clyde

Length 294, beam 32 metre
Original twin screw steam turbine replaced 1987 by twin diesel 28 kt (34 kt max)
2008 purchased by Dubai World for hotel, finally opened 2018 with limited facilities.
White funnel repainted in traditional Cunard red/black in 1983 after deployment in Falkland’s War.

Southampton floating crane pontoon built by Furness Shipyard in 1923 and crane added by Cowans in 1924. During WW2 was moved to the Clyde for “special duties” and returned 1946.
Main lift 150 tons at 106 ft radius, plus auxiliary lift 40 tons at 131 feet radius.
1962 steam power replaced by diesel and crane finished service in 1985
