QUEEN MARY forward funnel with the two Tyfon steam whistles, tuned lower bass A that could be heard 10 miles away. Equivalent to a 16 inch coastal gun. The reverberation can be detected between 50 and 100 miles away, although deck passengers are undisturbed. Each whistle is 6.5 ft (2 m) in length and weighs 1 ton and operated with steam pressure of 140psi.
Funnel is 70 ft 6inches (21.5m) high and 30ft diameter, 23 ft 4inches wide. Raked to keep soot off the decks.
