DAVID BROWN RAF TRACTOR 89402
Description:
RAF David Brown VIG-1462 aircraft tractor No. 89402 was built shortly after World War II and retired in the 1970s. It still works as a tug at the Yorkshire Air Museum (RAF Elvington) 30/7/2010 The designer is the same David Brown (later Sir) who was responsible for James Bond 007's most famous car, the Aston Martin DB5. (Can you see the likeness?)
Brown also built aircraft tugs (VIG) for the Royal Air Force and for pulling the bomb trolleys used to re-arm aircraft. These tugs are distinctive, with truck like tyres, wrap round body work and HD bumpers front and rear, some being fitted with winches.
Sir David Brown was one time owner of Vosper Thornycroft, Aston Martin and Lagonda.
