VAGANT and Tricolor

Used in partnership with platform Buzzard to cut vehicle carrier Tricolor in 9 sections of 3000 tonne using diamond abrasive on steel cables (sawing back and forth). Tricolor, on route from Zeebrugge to Southampton, carrying 2871 new BMW, Saab and Volvo (valued at £60m retail) was in collision with Kariba.
Smit used this technique to salvage Russian submarine Kursk.
