SPITFIRE ML407
Description:
Spitfire flying over Southampton Water in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the first flight March 5th 1936.
Originally a single seat Spitfire built in 1944 at Castle Bromwich ML407 flew 176 operational sorties and credited with the first enemy plane shot down over the Normandy beach on D Day.
It was recovered from a museum in 1979 and rebuilt over a five year period by the pilot's husband. He was tragically killed in a car accident in 1988 and his wife, Carolyn Grace, learnt to fly and demonstrate the Spitfire in his honour. She has since gained her Display Authorisation in 1991, and added Aerobatic and Formation qualifications.
